I used to have a really hard time receiving gifts

With Black Friday, small business Saturday, Cyber Monday and giving Tuesday just passing I believe we are officially in the giving season.  As a parent of five and an uncle to five I receive a lot of joy in giving gifts to my family.  I love giving, but sometimes I have a really hard time receiving.  I remember one particular time when my pastor came up to me after church and gave me $20.  He said he felt prompted to give it to me.  In my youthful pride I responded, "thanks I'll put it in the offering bucket next week".  He just looked at me and smiled.  You see I couldn't receive a gift.  My pride wouldn't allow me to admit that I had a need.

God tells us that, β€œIt is by grace we have been saved through faith; and that not of ourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.”  Did you know that salvation, forgiveness of sins, and everlasting life are a gift from God?

God isn't waiting for you or me to be good enough to meet His standards; He is trying to give us the gift of a whole new life.  The problem is we don't want to admit we have a need.  Like myself as a young man we all struggle with admitting that we have fallen short of God's standard, we don't even want to admit that there is a standard by which we should live by.  But I am telling you, as soon as you are ready to receive God's free gift He is ready to give it to you.  All you have to do is call on Jesus in prayer and ask Him to give you all that He has for you.  If you do this you will receive His free gift and your life will never be the same.
