Pride leads to disgrace
I hope you are having a wonderful week!
I want to share a powerful passage with you this morning that can truly change the course of your life. Proverbs 11:2 reads, “Pride leads to disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.”
Pride is when we think everything begins and ends with us and we don’t need anybody else to accomplish our goals. The problem with pride is that it accentuates the blind spots we all have in our life. Blind spots are areas in our life where we are failing and are completely unaware of it. Nobody wants to live that way. The other problem with pride is that it is most commonly found in small thinking, small vision people. These kinds of people will only ever do what they can accomplish by themselves.
In this passage we are encouraged to humble ourselves. So what is humility? Let me say it this way, humility is not thinking less of myself, it's thinking of my self less. It is recognizing the gifts, talents and abilities of those around me and encouraging them in their gifting.
Wisdom comes with humility because humble people are teachable. The most successful people are the most teachable. Leading scientists in an area are teachable by their peers, leading salesman in the office are teachable in the area of sales, great marriages don’t just happen, they occur when both people in the marriage are willing to learn and grow in the area of marriage.
A simple truth of life is that only the humble get help and if you want to do anything great in this life you’re going to need help. So I encourage you to humble yourself and receive all the wisdom that comes with it.
