My Dream Is to Help You Live Yours

My Dream Is to Help You Live Yours
Drew T. Jackson

My name is Drew, and my dream is to help you live yours.

That is more than a slogan to me. It is what I believe I was put on this earth to do, and I am committed to it.

Most of us spend a lot of time answering the question, “What do you do?” We talk about our job, our title, our business, or the season of life we are in. Those things matter, but they do not always answer the deeper question: “What are you here to give?”

I have been a pastor, teacher, coach, trainer, leader, husband, and father of five. Each role has taught me something different. Parenting has given me daily opportunities to practice communication, leadership, patience, and forgiveness. My work has allowed me to learn from great thinkers and leaders. Being a pastor taught me how to support people through both celebration and pain. Looking back, I can see a common thread running through all of it: I want to help people move forward.

But the clearest explanation for my purpose is also the most personal.

The reason this matters to me

My baby brother’s name was Evan. I call him my baby brother because he will always be my baby brother, even though he died at twenty-six.

When you are twenty-six, twenty-six may not feel young. Once you have lived a little longer, you realize how much life can still be ahead of you at that age. Evan died before he was able to live his dream. If I am honest, I think he died before he had the opportunity to discover and define what his dream was.

That loss changed the way I think about time. It made the question of purpose more than an interesting exercise. None of us is promised an unlimited number of years to figure out what matters, use what we have been given, and become who we were created to be.

I cannot give Evan more time. What I can do is spend mine helping other people discover, define, and live their dreams.

When I use the word dream, I am not talking only about fame, money, starting a company, or leaving your job. Your dream may never put you on a stage. It may be raising healthy children, building a strong marriage, serving your community, creating something useful, leading with courage, or becoming the person your family can depend on. A dream is not an escape from responsibility. Often, our most important responsibilities are part of the dream.

Your dream is the picture of what your life could contribute when your values, gifts, experiences, faith, and opportunities begin moving in the same direction.

Your life can help somebody

I believe each person carries real value and potential. That does not mean every idea we have is automatically a good one, or that every ambition should be pursued. It means your life is not random, your gifts are not meaningless, and your experiences do not have to be wasted.

Real greatness is expressed through service. That is an important test for any dream. Who will be helped if you become the person you are capable of becoming? Who will be stronger because you used your gifts? Who might find hope because you were willing to tell the truth about what you have learned?

The best dreams are personal, but they are not selfish. They call something out of us and then allow us to give something through us.

Maybe you have never defined your dream. Maybe you had one, but life became busy and it was buried under bills, work, disappointment, or the needs of everybody else. Maybe your dream has changed. That is okay. The first step is not to have the entire plan. The first step is to pay attention.

Ask yourself three questions:

  • What kind of person do I want to become?

  • Who do I most want my life to help?

  • What do I know I would regret leaving undone?

Do not rush your answers. Write them down. Sleep on them. Talk about them with someone who knows you well and wants what is best for you. A meaningful dream usually becomes clearer through reflection, honest conversation, and action, not through one dramatic moment.

Over the coming weeks, I want to help you work through that process. We will talk about truth, values, strengths, passion, faith, focus, and the decisions that turn good intentions into a life of purpose. I will share lessons from my own successes and failures, along with practical questions you can use in your own life.

I do not know what your dream is yet. But I believe your life matters, your time is valuable, and there is something you can do that will make life better for someone else.

My dream is to help you live yours. Let’s begin. When you want it written down, start with the free Strategic Life Plan.

Best regards,

Drew
